Job News!!!

I think a few people know, but for those that don't, I will be starting a new chapter in my life very soon. I got a job as an Elementary Library Media Specialist for a district here in the Kansas City area. I'm very excited, nervous, but excited.

I only have two days more at my bookstore job and then I'll have a small break before I start new teacher training on the 30th. It's a new experience and a little scary because I've been at the bookstore for soooooo long. But I will finally get to put some of my library training to good use. I think I'll really enjoy sharing my favorite reads with the kids and learning many new things from them.

My sister and I even went shopping at the teacher store today for bulletin board stuff and stickers and whatnot. It's fun to plan and create and I look forward to seeing the finished product. Maybe I'll post some pictures when I get it all ready for school.

I'm hoping my new job will not affect my blogging. I can always schedule posts over the weekend, but it will be new and stressful, plus I will still be taking classes, so I may miss a day or two here and there.

Just wanted you all to know what's happening in my life. It's nice to be starting a "career" rather than just a "job."

  2. That's sounds pretty cool! I loved my elementary school librarian. We were only allowed to check out a certain number of books and she'd let me check out an unlimited number. : )

  5. Congrats! I too just got a job at as a Media Specialist at an elementary school here in Illinois. You'll probably find a lot of supplies in the library. I was in my library yesterday and literally went through EVERY drawer.

I hope you like your new job! I know I'm also excited/nervous. I was in a school library last year, but just as an aide.. so it's going to be way different in some aspects.

  7. Janssen and Kristen,

I'm so glad to see there are others who are just starting out. I feel like I have so much to learn, but I can't until I get in there and just start doing it. We'll have to support one another.

    Bianca,

So happy to see other KC YA bloggers. We have to stick together. I keep seeing KC authors popping up every day.

  11. Congratulations - there's just something so special about an elementary school library. I love (when I sub) it when I have a class that has library day. The kids - well most of them - are so eager. You're gonna love it!

  13. Good luck! I'm sure it will go well. I know how you must feel. I was freaked out when I left my software job to work in a corporate library. Go figure I'm back in software and am hoping to get back into a library soon.

  17. Congrats! So great to hear of your transition. I'm still trying to figure out what to do work-wise. I know I'd love to do something with books. Been toying with the idea of going back to school for a Library Science degree.
